Users review: Mama, a film executively produced by Del Toro follows the story of two girls who were found in the desert for five years. They were later adopted by their father Luke (Nikolaj Coaster-Waldau) and Annabel girlfriend (Jessica Chastain) and right off the bat, strange things begin to happen. Though caught in the wild, Victoria (Megan Charpentier) and Lily (Isabelle Nelisse) formed guardian to protect and care for them, as they call Mama.This is a very good film. Be warned that it still depends on the jump scare to scare you, but they are what I would call a pure jump scares. Does not erupt corner cat, or shoes that fall from the sky. Mom uses CGI to create a dark, disturbing images with tense orchestral score to scare pants off. Acting is also very good, especially Jessica Chastain and Megan Charpentier. Isabelle is also solid, but I have a feeling that before each acquisition, he was told what to do, but Megan old enough to understand the script and the story. Something that really caught my attention was how the story was going, and how wonderful mother daughter relationship has been described. Cinematography is also one of the most beautiful work I've ever seen in a horror movie. Camera work is steady and smooth dolly shots and suspenseful. Overall, the mother is a terrifying horror film with a wonderful story and beautiful camera work. I hope this film is recognized as a classic in years to come. The film also shows that the PG-13 horror movie can be scary after all. 9/10. |
